Oscar Night: Italian potluck…

February 24, 2009 Leave a comment

We were fortunate to be invited over to a friends place for an Italian Oscar potluck with some low-stakes gambling on the Oscar winners. Betty and I decided we would bring over an antipasti platter to complement the Spaghetti and meatballs which were going to be the headliner. The only question — how elaborate would we get? I’ll let the pictures speak for themselves:

a meat and cheese plate of course with: salami, pepperoni, smoked mozzarella, mozarella, provolone, and a monterey jack spiked with tomatoes and olives.

and the true antipasti platter with cornichons — freshly discovered from friday’s meal at Spagios, balsamic drizzled tomatoes, blue cheese stuffed olives, and pepperoncinis. come on now. we definitely put some love into this.

the rest of the feast:

an Italian salad with anchovies and homemade dressing. can’t beat it and I even tried an anchovy.

oh man this spaghetti and meat balls was yummy — a pretty sweet sauce with beef meatballs.

I did not take pictures of the desserts but there were 2 very tasty items. One was a three layer mousse cake from whole foods that appeared to have a pistachio, strawberry, and chocolate layer. I think i had 3 slices of it. Heaven.

The other was a Jewish dessert that consisted of pasta, cream, raisins in a sort of pasta pudding — as bread pudding might be prepared. very dense but tasty.
